In 2004 ontdekte Donald Morris (zie website http://www.bestfranklinsquares.com/mcm2) de basis sleutel methode. In feite is de basissleutel een 2 x n [n = veelvoud van 4] magische rechthoek. De methode werkt heel eenvoudig voor magische vierkanten die een veelvoud van 4 zijn.

het 20x20 meest perfect magisch vierkant bestaat de volgende eenvoudige basissleutel.
